Happy Valentine's Day?

I know, a day late and a dollar short...story of my life;)
Unemployeed does not mean I get out of working at Gino's on a holiday.  Vday is always a huge restaurant day and last night was right up there in the most busy day of the year catagory.  As such we didn't really do any celebrating.  And going into the weekend of the husband working I think this year we are just going to have to let this one go.
But I did get a valentine...from Woolgirl! P1020266This is the last installment of the 2007 Woolgirl sock club.  I am sad to see it end, but was thrilled to have the timing coincide with VDay.  I haven't used the Zen Garden yarn before (in fact every yarn in the club was new to me!).  This last package includes the yarn in "Blush" with two patterns, a stitch marker, a project bag and a stitch marker container full of m&ms!  What a great present, Thank you Jenn!

Well looky here

We actually have some photos.  I should insert these into the past posts that were lacking them, but why not just have a fun photo post instead.
First, I do have to say that the husband had his surgery yesterday and it was a great success.  The Emergency room doctor did such a great job of setting his arm the surgeon was able to move the bones into place and pin them without any incisions.  He should also have a much shorter recuperation time.  I couldn't help but take this photo on our return from the hospital that first night P1020198 You can tell he was thrilled I needed to document the moment.  Here are some snow pics from that night and a few others this last week P1020199 P1020205 P1020200 Can you see how big some of those flakes are?  Here are my Spruce Sprigs socks P1020203If you scroll back a couple of posts you'll find the details about these pretties.  The recipient has declared them very wearable and warm!
Here is the current project P1020208 While I love the squishiness of duet yarns this is not a project I am loving.  The self striping in the feet is turning to pooling in the legs.  I would prefer it to be the other way around.  I may just finish these at the standard length.  However, I am now in love with the knee high idea and need to do a little stash diving for the next sock project.
In the single sock area here is Lenore P1020196_2 This and another of the RSC projects need pairs.  My February sock projects.
On the already a joiner in '08 subject Mission_possible_buttonJane found this on Ravelry and has copied the description here.  This is the perfect KAL for my 2008 resolutions!  And we'll be putting ole Lenore as #1.

What a week!

Craziness all week at home and work, but I've kept good humor through all. Hey, what else are ya gonna do?
Commuting from the mountain hasn't been bad. I can now tell you anything you'd like to know about the candidates and polling practices in New Hampshire;)
In the evenings, as there is no yoga at present, we are addicted to the show Alias. It's great when you are late to the party. We are still watching season 1. I have no idea how many seasons there even are of this show. it's great for knitting! I've finished the first pair of socks for 2008 (and no this isn't my computer so no photos). Spruce Sprigs--Woolgirl's December sockclub selection. The yarn is a wool/mohair blend from the Unique Sheep. I'll definitely knit with this again. It was a dream!
I now have another pair of socks going--Lucky Lurker's November sockclub offering. These are fun! Knee highs in a falling leaves pattern. I'm not overjoyed with the colorway, but these are going to feel so great and squishy I just can't wait until they are done. I'm hoping to get some more of Angela's XXL in a Valentine colorway.
The garden ideas just keep on coming! I've figured out my basic kitchen garden which will be planted outside my kitchen window. This will be a very traditional come and cut again European idea. Mainly salad and braising greens with lots of herb plants in the ground and in pots (lemon verbena and varieties of scented geraniums). I've now been plotting to take over the main garden bed. However, I have to pull myself back as I don't know where I'll be come June. Not saying more than that right now...
In the spinning area--I have a project on the wheel that needs to get finished very soon. That will be the main weekend plan. That and working for the husband. My job is on hold for a few days as it is easiest for me to be his replacemendt. I'm looking forward to working over at Gino's tonight. I enjoyed having a break for a few years, but I do think that restaurant suits me better.

This post would be so much more exciting with photos! I'll try to get some loaded very soon.

The good, the bad and the indecisive

I received a couple of holiday "knit" surprises.  The first was a gift certificate to a LYS as a thank you for hosting his company party.  Even though I've known him and his family for quite a few years it still surprised me that he would remember that I knit.  The second was a gift from my stepson.  He gave me Bag Style for Christmas.  I actually don't have that book (the only one from the series in fact).  He said he noticed I don't knit bags and he's right.  And there are a couple in there that I'll be knitting next year.

I almost forgot this good thing--I somehow lost 7 pounds over Christmas!  How did that happen?  I'm not complaining or anything, but really I think I wasn't given enough treats this year;)

Now the bad--above stepson had his car broken into a couple of nights ago.  He lost all his holiday gifts and snowboarding gear!  I feel terrible for him.  I also remember being about that age when the same happened to me and I learned not to leave my whole life in the car.  That is a lesson you hope others can learn from you and not have to experience themselves!

As for the indecisive--I can't decide if I want to join the Woolgirl sock club for 2008!  I loved it this year, but I am so far behind in my sock club knits.  I have joined the RSC again, but have let the rest go.  Jen has a great club, she puts together amazing packages and she, like Blue Moon Fiber Arts, is my LYS.  hmmmmm

I am still knitting holiday gifts today.  We have our employee party (for restaurant #1) on Tuesday.  I'm knitting up a hat from some handspun.  Actually first I'll be finding a pattern as the hat I had planned on may not work.  His wife informed me that he prefers something snug with no fold ups.  okey doke--I think I can manage that.

Here I am

I feel like I've really not had a lot to say this month.  I looked back at the last three holidays and my blog was lacking as well (can you believe I'm in my fourth year of blogging?).  This is always a do do month.  As my mom would say I am being a "Debby Do-bee" (long story).
I am almost finished with the shopping and knitting.  Woo Hoo!  Today I realized, however, that I didn't have an entree for the 100 guests I have on Christmas Eve and that I do not have any wrapping paper for the 25 odd gifts sitting around in bags right now.  I am definitely one of those people that what ever I have on Christmas Eve at about noon will just have to do.  Because really who is going to know what's not there except for me.  Well, I guess if we end up with dinner of side dishes they may notice...
Along with all the holiday hoopla there have been three sock packages that have arrived.  Not uncelebrated by me, but undocumented until now! P1020160 das-schneeschaf in "Rosegarden".  I won this through the Woolgirl blog.  This yarn is handpainted using an airbrush technique.  It gives a pretty muted look.  I can't wait to see how it knits up.  Also in that package were some yummy Hershey's truffle kisses, sheep soaps and hand lotion.  Jenn sure knows how to give a gift.  And speaking of Woolgirl--here is the December sock club yarn P1020161 I haven't even gotten to the last socks, but I'm excited to knit this beautiful yarn from the Unique Sheep in "Spruce Sprigs".  As I said Jenn can really put together a package--this one contained a Christmas tree measuring tape, a Mama Lama stitch marker, cider with cinnamon sticks, candy and a 10% off coupon!  What a great holiday package oh and of course a beautiful pattern by the same name as the yarn.  A ruffled lace and twisted rib sock pattern.  Here is another sock club yarn P1020162 The last shipment for 2007 from the Rockin Sock Club.  STR medium weight in "Bella Coola" came with a pattern by Cat Bordhi "Salish Sea Socks"!  I'm looking forward to the holiday ending (and finishing some other socks) so I can sink my teeth into this pattern.

In other news--HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVE BARBER!!!!!  My neighbor, friend and reader:) is turning 50 today.  I hope dinner at Nostrana was terrific!

I'm talking here too
